XKey installation guide
Choose how to install XKey for Microsoft PowerPoint and who will manage its updates.
| Option | Choose it when | Who manages updates? |
|---|---|---|
| Standalone MSI | You install XKey yourself and can approve administrator prompts | XKey checks for updates; you approve installation |
| Intune | Your company manages software on your device | Your IT team |
| ClickOnce | You already use a ClickOnce installation | Its existing ClickOnce channel |
Standalone and Intune are alternative installations and cannot coexist. Ask your administrator before changing a company-managed installation. Avoid installing an MSI alongside ClickOnce.
Install XKey
Follow the installation guide for prerequisites, installation steps and removal. Download MSI and Intune packages from GitHub Releases (opens in a new tab).
Keep XKey updated
The Standalone updater checks when PowerPoint starts, at most once every six hours. It asks for approval and waits for PowerPoint to close before installing. See how updates work.
Deploy across a company
The Intune distribution lets IT control deployment, detection and updates. See the Intune deployment guide, then use the detailed instructions supplied with your package.
Existing ClickOnce installations
Keep using your original installation URL and update channel. ClickOnce updates are separate from MSI updates. If you want to change installation type, coordinate removal of the existing installation first.
